Gypsies go to Heaven

Gypsies go to Heaven was performed in Abu Dhabi in 2023, produced technically by LEVEL.

The production is a touring music-and-dance piece staged by the Slovak Dance Theatre with the Gypsy Devils orchestra, directed and choreographed by Ján Ďurovčík and drawing on Emil Loteanu's film of Maxim Gorky's stories. It puts a live orchestra — including virtuoso dulcimer playing — on stage alongside a dance company.

That combination places two demands on the same rig: audio has to serve musicians playing live, with monitoring that lets them work together, while the lighting has to read fast, physical movement across the full performance area. Side light was used to give the dancers shape, with defined positions for the musicians so both elements held their own on stage.
